A Rest From Travel For A While

From Vernal, UT to Flaming Gorge (above)
And past Bear Lake, UT, (below) to finally rest
for a season in Providence, UT.

We had a great day today, as we went to see the Gunnison Black Canyon National Park. It was just a few miles from Montrose, CO where we stayed last night, and after seeing it we are amazed that we had never heard of it before, and that there is not more advertized about it.

These photos don't really show the true colors as it was morning and we were taking into the sun for most of the canyon. Then we drove up through Colorado on Hwy 139 through another amazing mountain pass, and then into Vernal Ut. In Vernal I was impressed with the beautiful flower baskets and tubs that were EVERYWHERE all through town, in the parks, in front of the Motels, etc. etc. and they were all the same colors and the whole place smelled wonderful. We saw two of the watering trucks that keep them looking so beautiful and they were on both sides of the street for 4 miles.

Royal Gorge Train Ride

We spent the morning taking the Royal Gorge Train
trip and it was a visual treat, and as you can see
the rafters were having a great time also.


This is the Gorge Bridge and although we didn't
walk across it when we left the train it was
still quite impressive just seeing it from the
bottom up,


The only way through the gorge is by train
or rafting the river, so you have the sheer
rock cliffs on one side and the river on the
other side as you go through.

Finally we get to see Mountains!

When we finally got into Colorado and saw
mountains it was like coming home after all the
flat land and trees everywhere. So of course
we had to drive up Pikes Peak, all 1400 feet and
at times the road looked like it just dropped off
before it took another hairpin turn. It was
beautiful, and if you don't like heights you wouldn't
have liked the drive up and back.

Buffalo Bill

Couldn't believe how huge these statues of
Buffalo Bill and of course the Buffalo were.
This was in his birthplace of Oakley, Kansas.

Another Travel Day

I tried to take a photo of the Kansas City Chiefs stadium as we
were driving by, but as you can see Roger was on point.
At least going through Kansas you can see more than just
trees on the side of the road which was a nice change.

Long Travel Day

We had a long day today as we drove through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and half way through Missouri. As you can see I still love watching airplanes even if it is through the windshield going through St. Louis. Went past miles and miles of corn and soy bean fields, but at least we could see something besides just trees! Had a wild thunder and lightening storm here in Columbia, MO and 20 minutes after it started we heard sirens going off for ten minutes, so maybe in the morning we will find out what happened??!!

Our Amish Friends

We enjoyed driving through Intercourse PA
and seeing all the wonderful farms that
the Amish have. Monday was wash day
so lots of clothes on the line all over.

Trip Continues

The pagaent was awesome, the Grove is so peaceful and the farm is a delight to work in. We have loved our two weeks in this part of NY and spending time again with good friends that we worked with at Heber Valley Camp. We are off now to explore the Amish area in Lancaster, PA and will update more later.

Had a great time in Niagara Falls, Canada as we were there over the 4th of July and so there were fireworks on the Canadian side on the 3rd and the US side on the 4th. They turn colored lights on the falls at night so we really had a great show.
